OK….so I have to admit, I wasn’t all that thrilled to go see John Carter. To me, it looked like a mash up of Star Wars, Scorpion King & Cowboys vs Aliens. I guess I was sort of right….in the mash up part. Where I was all wrong, was in my hesitation to go see this 2.5 hour phenomenal adventure movie. Don’t listen to the critics out there…including me! Just go see it for yourself. I often find that if a film gets panned by the critics, I love it! Not that John Carter has gotten panned…it’s just not the overwhelming success that Disney was hoping for….as least I feel like that. It had a HUGE budget….north of $200 million. The special effects, no doubt, play a big part of that. From the first scene, it was clear this movie had something special to offer. It was cinematically perfect….gripping action, beautiful scenery, lighting, costumes….all wrapped around a plot like none other. I was honestly mad at the film a couple of times, because I, “thought” it was going to end at a certain predictable point….it didn’t. It kept on going to my sheer delight! The story came around fully for me and ended exactly where I wanted it to.
We have movies being thrown at us weekly. The studios around the world churn out crap left and right. John Carter is among the movies of the must-see-on-the-big-screen variety. If you enjoy the thrill of a classic adventure movie that lets your mind wonder to far-off lands, go see this film! You will love it!!
