So…….yeah, claymation type animation is not really my favorite. I was never a huge fan of Mr. Bill….or Gumby for that matter. Even the Wallace and Gomit flick wasn’t really my cup of tea. It just something about the jerky, stop-action motion that makes me sort of cross-eyed after a while. However, I have to say it’s come long way!
Last week my whole family went to the latest claymation movie, The Pirates! Band of Misfits. I have read plenty of reviews about it……don’t listen to them! Listen to me…. not the holier-than-thou movie critics out there. Some say, “oh the film just doesn’t work”…..it bloody well does work. It’s hilarious! I loved it and will go see it again……full price mind you!
The animation speaks for itself……amazing actually. There were times I had to remind myself it was indeed an animated flick…..aside from the claymation figures of course. However, even the figures were smooth and full of character. One thing that bothers me with older claymation is that I could never get a sense of the true character behind the wording. It was just a bunch of clay being formed. With this new movie, you can definitely feel the character’s emotions. The eyes on Queen Victoria are in a class all to themselves. Any movie that refers to her as, “Vicki” has my vote! In the words of the great Eddie Izzard about the Queens of England, “….they’re all rather frumpy…” So go see this flick…..don’t pay attention to the negative critics out there……they are a dime a dozen. I’d venture a guess they are rather frumpy as well…….unlike yours truly!
