“Why…..why…..why”…..that’s what kept rolling in my mind as I watched the new Iron Man 3 movie this past weekend. My burning desire to know the answer, didn’t lie within the film at all, I loved the movie. The answer lies within the confines of some very stupid parents. Parents who bring their very young children to see PG-13 and above movies. All through the movie, I could hear children either chatting, gasping or crying. At one point, I had to turn around and shoot the look of death to the mother of a very young child who kept crying after one of the many action/explosion scenes. I am sorry, but what the hell are people thinking? I know…the standard answer is, “they are not thinking”. Well, actually I think they are…..very calculatingly so too. These so-called parents or care-takers don’t give a rats butt about these young children. They are nothing but a bunch of lazy, selfish, rude degenerates. To expose a young child to violence, sex, abusive language and more is criminal. It is no wonder our society is so jaded….we have raised them to be! What happened to the days of protecting the young from inappropriateness? I get they want to see the movie……I even get that the kids might be totally in love with their comic book super hero. But these movies, are NOT FOR CHILDREN. Years ago, I walked out of the movie Blade …….an R rated movie. Some woman had young children there with her…..totally crying. They were scared. They should have been….it was absolutely a crime to have had them watching it. To this day, I don’t know what ever happened in the movie. The theater said they couldn’t do anything about it. Well, actually they could have, they just didn’t have the balls to. I think if theaters would grow a pair, and just say no children under 13 period, it would make for a much better life and world. At least it would inconvenience the total schmucks out there. In what world is it OK for children to see scenes of torture, death, violence and abuse? They are not old enough to fully comprehend it all….don’t let these foolish parents tell you otherwise. They will argue, “….well my kid knows the difference”, “….little Johnny would never do these things….”, “….she’s seen much worse…” I have heard it all. It’s awful to sit in a theater where even in a PG-13 movie there is a sex scene with loads of kissing, fondling and fowl language….only to hear the kid next to you say, “….mommy, why do they have to show that?” or “…..daddy, does that really happen?” ……yes, I have heard it! This past weekend was just another rude awakening to the stupidity of the modern parent. To have your child sit and cry, and then not do anything about it…..criminal. Wake up stupid parents of the world……when you least expect it, your daughter will end up pole dancing and your son will build bombs for excitement. Or…..your son will end up pole dancing, and your precious little girl will blow things to smithereens. Please stop exposing your children to sex and violence at such young ages. This past weekend’s exploits centered mostly around kids from baby age to about 7 years old I’d say. At the end of IM3, the dad next to me asked his young son (about 5 years), “Did you like that buddy?”, the little boy returned a cringeworthy answer of, “Yes daddy! I loved seeing all the killings and explosions!”. Dads need to stop being their son’s, “buddy”, and start being their father for once.

So yeah….all you stupid, selfish, self-serving parents out there that want to see the movie….great! By all means see the movie you want to. But, put your child’s health and safety first…..skip the popcorn/drink combination and get a freaking sitter already.

The end.

I was part of the huge $175.3 million box-office opening. Admittedly, I am a bit of an Iron addict. I love these movies. Perhaps I just love the fact that Robert Downey JR was given the role and took it to perfection. He has always been a favorite of mine…..a great actor. To see him change his life around has been nothing sheer of awesome. I am sure he had many people pulling for him. Much congratulations Mr. Downey….thank you for beginning again and perfecting your craft in such a brilliant way.

Now…..the movie. It seems a bit more violent than the first two movies…..I know, that seems absurd to say. For some reason, it just seemed more personal and not fiction so much. In these days of such extreme violence around the world, and in our own neighborhoods, each act of violence on the big screen is multiplied tenfold for me. I am a mother, the fact that there were very, very young children in the audience really was gnawing at me all the way through. So, while I think it was really, really well done….and I would encourage anyone to go see it, I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I anticipated. I have a whole post brewing inside me about young childen and violent/non-appropriate movies! However, as an action hero movie goes, it hit all the marks for me:

1) A great plot that is easy to follow. I don’t like a complicated plot in an action hero movie. I want a plot that’s interesting, twisting but still easy to follow. I want to be engrossed in the characters. I want to focus on the intensity of their quest, without having to over-analyze the movie. Iron Man 3 was great for that.

2) I want the protagonist and antagonist to make sense and have a connection of some sort. The past history of the characters always plays out in my mind as I watch. In Iron Man 3 they do a very good job at character ties….well done.

3) Finally, in an action movie….I want action of course. Iron Man 3 brings to life yet another series of bold, unanticipated action. The worst thing that could happen in a movie, is when the audience can anticipate each move. While I could maybe guess at things, I was forever kept on edge with the stunt work…..amazing. The brilliant ways to blow up, incinerate, shoot at, crash or otherwise mangle everything was thrilling to watch. Like I said, it seemed a bit too violent at times, but I am very much aware of the audience while at a theater. One day, I would love a private, pre-showing of a movie like this. I could truly be overcome with emotion and thrill then……no interference of crying children. I do believe though, the audience can totally add to the overall movie experience. Nothing beats an excited, dressed up crowd at a midnight showing!

All in all, IM3 was great…..I am already looking forward to seeing it again. I would encourage anyone who likes action movies in general to check it out. Anytime Tony Stark is involved…things will get torn to shreds and blown to bits. But hey, at least the world is once again safe…..till the next time!

Go get your daily dose of Iron and enjoy the show!

So…….yeah, claymation type animation is not really my favorite. I was never a huge fan of Mr. Bill….or Gumby for that matter. Even the Wallace and Gomit flick wasn’t really my cup of tea. It just something about the jerky, stop-action motion that makes me sort of cross-eyed after a while. However, I have to say it’s come long way!

Last week my whole family went to the latest claymation movie, The Pirates! Band of Misfits. I have read plenty of reviews about it……don’t listen to them! Listen to me…. not the holier-than-thou movie critics out there. Some say, “oh the film just doesn’t work”…..it bloody well does work. It’s hilarious! I loved it and will go see it again……full price mind you!

The animation speaks for itself……amazing actually. There were times I had to remind myself it was indeed an animated flick…..aside from the claymation figures of course. However, even the figures were smooth and full of character. One thing that bothers me with older claymation is that I could never get a sense of the true character behind the wording. It was just a bunch of clay being formed. With this new movie, you can definitely feel the character’s emotions. The eyes on Queen Victoria are in a class all to themselves. Any movie that refers to her as, “Vicki” has my vote! In the words of the great Eddie Izzard about the Queens of England, “….they’re all rather frumpy…” So go see this flick…..don’t pay attention to the negative critics out there……they are a dime a dozen. I’d venture a guess they are rather frumpy as well…….unlike yours truly!

So…..after 23 years of marriage, 3 beautiful kids, 5 dogs, a cat, a hamster, and a few fish…..I need to decide what to be when I grow up. I suppose I have been fighting this for the better part of my life. When I was a little girl, my dad was in the airline business and traveled a lot. I always dreamt of being….don’t cringe at the wording, a stewardess. For those under 40…that’s a flight attendant. I love the word stewardess. Bring on the white go-go boots baby! Nothing wrong with good, clean fun. However, after I met the man of dreams, fell madly in love, got married, had kids, dogs, a cat, a hamster and a few fish….I developed a classic a case of fear of flying. This does not fit well with the dream of being a stewardess.
Good thing I have multiple interests from day to day, always wanting to learn more about life. I have been told I can cook and bake really well…OK…but that’s only for family and friends really. I love to, but not professionally…..too many restrictions/regulations. I have also been told I decorate well. No surprise there. I majored in art and all things creative are fun for me. But I like things done my way…..in other words, don’t change my work. I have been told I am a great hostess….OK, what do you do with that one? I love to see people have fun and relax in the comfort of a good party or get-together. But, to organize something for someone else…no thank you. Have you seen the bride-zilla type shows? People expect way too much out of life these days….that’s a whole other post! I have been told I have a really funny sense of humor…..can’t argue that. Well, I could, but then I’d be fighting with myself and I do that enough already. The good thing is, when I do argue with myself, I am always right….just go with it. I also love to do voices…no, not hear voices, do voices. I do a scary good Marvin the Martian voice, lol! And, if you need a dolphin on command, or a Russian accent….hey, I’m available for you!
All was going along in life just fine until, I felt the urge to grow up and become financially independent. I am really tired of one word. It’s a word that haunts each person not sitting on cushion. It’s a word so horrible, I don’t even want to peck the letters here…..for fear I’ll have to crack open the last piggy bank. The most feared word is: budget. Budget, budget, budget….it really makes me want to gag….puke even. I know I sound completely spoiled and even rotten…your point?
So, back to the original line of thought…what to be when I grow up? Then it hit me……I think I stumbled onto a platform of creative freedom that I can control from home, on my own time. It’s something I can take with me anywhere I go, something I have come to enjoy, and something that might bring others happiness at some point. It’s writing! I already have several things written out about it…I just have to do it! I just didn’t even realize it’s what I want to do. Until, I began crafting this post in my mind last night. I think I am a natural born writer….of many facets. I have several larger scale writing projects written out in notes and outlines. Get this…
- books for the the teen set (a novel series, like Twilight, but totally different theme)
- books for the early reader set (an adventure series, like Franklin the Turtle)
-a cookbook or two (based on family recipes and stories)
-as well as a few others
So, you see…it’s been with me all along…..what I want to be when I grow up. I just didn’t recognize it until now….so many years later. I am thinking I need to find a way to begin this next chapter of my life (pun intended). With the onset of tablets, writing and publishing your works is even easier. I am looking forward to becoming an author using the latest and greatest technology….now, if only I could afford that blasted upgrade in all things tech!
Here’s to not growing up! Where’s Peter Pan when I need him?
I digress. Perhaps I should become a stewardess after-all.

Peace, Love & Dreams

OK….so I have to admit, I wasn’t all that thrilled to go see John Carter. To me, it looked like a mash up of Star Wars, Scorpion King & Cowboys vs Aliens. I guess I was sort of right….in the mash up part. Where I was all wrong, was in my hesitation to go see this 2.5 hour phenomenal adventure movie. Don’t listen to the critics out there…including me! Just go see it for yourself. I often find that if a film gets panned by the critics, I love it! Not that John Carter has gotten panned…it’s just not the overwhelming success that Disney was hoping for….as least I feel like that. It had a HUGE budget….north of $200 million. The special effects, no doubt, play a big part of that. From the first scene, it was clear this movie had something special to offer. It was cinematically perfect….gripping action, beautiful scenery, lighting, costumes….all wrapped around a plot like none other. I was honestly mad at the film a couple of times, because I, “thought” it was going to end at a certain predictable point….it didn’t. It kept on going to my sheer delight! The story came around fully for me and ended exactly where I wanted it to.
We have movies being thrown at us weekly. The studios around the world churn out crap left and right. John Carter is among the movies of the must-see-on-the-big-screen variety. If you enjoy the thrill of a classic adventure movie that lets your mind wonder to far-off lands, go see this film! You will love it!!

I don’t suppose it’s how many times you fall off the proverbial horse, it’s how many times you get back on it. So, here I am for more of, “this” what ever it is. My life has become even more fractional than before. That’s OK though….it’s all one big freaking learning curve. How many times I have said, “…..ugh, I need to blog….I need to dust of Fractional Woman…”
Well, today is the day I suppose. I have been practicing my writing in other outlets, yet not here for some reason. All I want to do is write…..it’s like a release of everyday pressures. I am more at ease now, more at home writing than ever before.
So, this horse is back in the stable, groomed and ready for the rat-race called life. I hope you will come along with me and discover your true calling, as I have mine….writing from the heart, for the heart.

Hope you all have a beautiful day……..
thanks for stopping by!

Ok…at the bottom of this post is an article about the French using plastic bottles for their wine.

Are they nuts, or are they just French? Could they be on to something big, or just trying to make a buck? Will the wineries survive…of course, they are are French! However, let me get this straight…..the French or at least some of the wine makers in France, are bowing to consumers. Say it ain’t so! It can never be….I find this article very funny in a way. Apparently, the Nords, Canadians, Texans and the Brits along with “airlines” are all too demanding. They want plastic…really? Well, come to think of it, Texans have no clue, Canadians will just go with it, the Nords are picky and the Brits…will just drink anything.

Now….please no complaints….all in good fun…..keep on topic and no twisted knickers! French wine in plastic….just sounds wrong. Does anyone else see the irony in a wine called Greener Planet being bottled in plastic? Leave it to a subsidiary of Wal-Mart to order that one! Or a large order of organic wine in plastic bottles to Monoprix? The Boisset Family Estates says they are not ashamed to bottle in plastic…..that’s until an outrage ensued and they backed off. Now they bottle in both glass and plastic…how democratic of them. I can get with the airlines needing to lighten their load…glass does weigh more.

Outside of that….stick to something that has been around for thousands of years……natural glass! It will not cheapen the brand, cheapen the look, change the taste or harm the environment anymore than plastic. I long for the days when I could just take a bottle into the grocery store and they gave me the deposit back. Kids have no idea! Unfortunately, kids are the ones running the companies these days. It’s all about profit and sales…..thanks for nothing cold cruel world…you’ve done it again. Quit whining and start wine-ing correctly…. go glass or pass is my view! Here is the article in case you are not bored to tears yet:

Now that I have your attention……..a tomato can fly if it’s been launched by the hands of someone who wants to make an impression. I feel like tomato……I have been given some amazing opportunities lately.

Two different friends, with very different businesses have approached me to help them. That’s where the tomato feeling comes in! I feel like I have been launched through the air. I have every confidence I am going to make a huge impression whenever I land. Flying the tomato is easy…..landing without making a mess of things is difficult. I have to figure out the perfect flight path, the perfect landing to make that splash.

Perhaps I should land in a bigger pile of tomatoes? No…then my work will just fade into the background. I could land in a pile of leaves….no again, all the wrong surroundings and I could get swept up into the trash. I want to land among blueberries! Yes, a huge pile a beautiful blueberries…..soft, the same basic surroundings of food, and I will stand out for sure. If I get lucky, I will lightly squish a few of the competition, but not harm them completely.

Competition is a beautiful thing when you are looking from the top. So, that’s why I have been away from here for so long….but, I think I need this blog to keep my head straightened out. I now have two more fractions in my fractional life…..however, I wouldn’t have it any other way!

It’s not called the produce section for nothing…..be a tomato, produce great things!

See you around the produce section!

Writing has helped me, now let it help you…..

Yes, I’ll use that excuse…..jet lag has caused a disruption of my writing exercises. That sounds much more continental…….whatever!

Good to be back in the swing of the writer’s pitch. In 2011 I am hoping to really actually craft this blog into something worthwhile. I now have a grasp on this whole blog thing. However, I must admit adding more than simple entry like this, terrifies me. Adding pictures, video and others fun stuff will surely follow this maze. Until then…….keep checking back. I am bound to discover product placement sooner or later!

As much as I am sure you all love reading my rantings…..I’d love to hear from you too! Feel free to post a comment!

Until next time….when I bore with my fabulous trip details…..have a most awesome day!

Blessings!

Christmas is upon us once again. Once again I am behind the eight-ball…….or at least I feel like that! True, I decorate right after Halloween.

But, that doesn’t mean I am organized! I always have these crazy plans of hosting this or that. I could be a professional hostess. My mom would say, Hostess with the Mostess! I do have a thing for decorating, however. Multiple trees, lights everywhere, Santa & snowmen collections, Christmas books, garlands, figurines…name it, it’s here! I love, love, love to share the decor with all. It makes me warm and fuzzy, what can I say?

I have gathered my top ten list of Christmas decor tips here for your reading pleasure! I hope you find something useful and begin find your Holiday style

Top Ten Holiday Décor Tips:

I know you all like real trees…..but, buy an artificial one! If you must have real greenery, accent your home with living potted pines, real pine wreaths or real pine garlands. They will give you the scent of the season without being such a fire hazard.

Start early! I know many of you don’t decorate until after Thanksgiving…blah, blah, blah……..well, you will enjoy the season much more if you consider doing at least some of the décor before turkey day. That way, on the day after when you are tired and overstuffed, you can just flip the light switch sit back and enjoy! Plus…if you do the outside, you can watch out the window and snicker at your neighbor!

Go with a theme when doing a party. It makes everything more fun and it’s easier to work with. One year we did a James Bond Christmas party. Mini martinis and olive tastings were a hit!

Keep a box, bag or basket around when decorating. In this keep hooks, those little packets of extra light bulbs and fuses for the strands of lights, a good all around clear household glue ( for those breakable things that broke!), extension cords, note paper and a pen.

When unpacking all your fantastic décor….write yourself notes as to what was in each box. It will make it much easier to pack it away. You will thank yourself!

If you do multiple trees (like I do)….keep them themed as well. I have a country tree, a gold “Paris” tree, a sentimental tree with old ornaments and a children’s tree. They all have their own tub of décor.

When decorating….don’t feel like you have to put everything out, every year. I rotate some of the décor. My music box collection only comes out every other year, I don’t put all the ornaments out every year, etc. That way it keeps your décor fresh and new to you each year.

When putting it all away again, write yourself a note as to where each thing went. For example: I have two lighted houses and a lighted church sitting on the piano. I think I will remember next year….I won’t. Pictures also help. Take pictures of all the décor. Then, the following year, before you put it all up, take a look at them. You will get ideas and play off them. Maybe recreating the same look or changing it up. I try every two years to switch things around. I don’t want the same reindeer in the same place year after year!

Don’t stick to just the visual aspect. Decorating for me encompasses all the senses. The season is filled with music, scents and softness. I play Christmas music all the time. One of my favorite cd’s is Lynyrd Skynrd and 38-Special’s Christmas CD….too awesome. I keep the house smelling Christmas-like with cinnamon pinecones, holiday spice scented candles and potpourri I also try to bake…try, I said Warm, soft blankets are kept on the couch for cool nights by the fire.

The last thing I can think of for a decorating tip is: HAVE FUN! Don’t think of it as a chore. Think of it as a blessing, a reward, a gift. Christmas is such a special time of year. Take time to pause and reflect on life. You are decorating to celebrate the birth of Christ. Santamas just doesn’t have the same ring to it…..no hard feelings big guy!

Merry Christmas to all, and to all happy decorating!

Peace, Love & Garlands
